There is an old adage, ‘Change is the only constant’ and nowhere is this as true as it is in education – children change, staff change, curriculum changes, pedagogy changes but this time, it’s me that’s changing. I will conclude my tenure as College Principal of St John’s Lutheran School and Geelong Lutheran College as of the 30th June, 2018 to take up the role of Education Officer – Formation, at the Lutheran Education – Victoria, NSW & Tasmania (LEVNT) Office in Box Hill early in July. Next year will mark my 20th year as Principal; my 10th at St John’s and my 10th at GLC and St John’s; with the 13 years I spent at St John’s as a teacher it makes a total of 33 years as part of Lutheran schooling in Geelong.
The decision to take a new pathway and let go of much that is dear to me has been a difficult one. I continue to have a great passion for Lutheran schooling in Geelong and I have thoroughly enjoyed being part of it. I feel privileged to have had such a wonderful opportunity and I am deeply thankful to God, our School Council, the staff, our school communities and the Lutheran Church communities of Geelong. As difficult as this decision has been for me I feel confident that I am leaving the schools in an excellent position and that our outstanding reputation will continue to grow into the future and we will continue to provide a quality education for our students.
So much has happened at our schools during the past 20 years and I have experienced a great deal of pride and satisfaction in what has been achieved and done here. We have created something special here in Geelong and I am proud, and thankful, to have had the opportunity to serve as your Principal during a period of intense change and growth.
The School Council will be working to seek a replacement College Principal with advertisements going out early in Term 1 2018. We will endeavour to keep you well informed of this progress. I have every confidence that this will prove to be an exciting opportunity for our schools and that the new College Principal will lead our schools into a bright and enthusiastic future.
In His service,
