Students in the  Years 5 and 6  are currently completing a unit on robotics.  This unit utilises LEGO MINDSTORM kits which contain the software and hardware to program robots.  By combining different programmable bricks (which is the coding language or instructions for the robot) on the LEGO MINDSTORM software, students can program their robot to carry out actions including moving forward, stopping, turning and spinning.  The students are creating their own programs as well as moving onto a series of challenging missions which utilise their robot’s touch and light sensors.

“I enjoy commanding the robots to do whatever.  It’s confusing at first, but once you get used to it, it’s so fun.”  Chidiebere

“I really enjoy robotics.  Robotics is when you have to program a computer to respond to your directions.  Robotics is a great form of using computers and it sets you up for high school.  Robotics is great fun.” Ned

“I enjoy robotics a lot.  It challenges people to get it correct.  It’s a lot of trial and error.  Everyone looks forward to robotics and the different challenges we do in it.” Rebekah
