Education for Sustainability
Resource Smart schools provide support and direction for the sustainability education community and help to link the wide range of sustainable schools programs and initiatives.
St John’s has agreed to participate in this program this year. This program provides professional development and customized consultancy to Victorian schools to assist us to become more sustainable by increasing biodiversity in the local area and dramatically reducing water use, greenhouse gas emissions and solid waste output.
2008 Aims
- To establish a whole school focus on Education for Sustainability permeating throughout the curriculum in all key learning areas and levels
- Complete the Core Module for 5 Star Sustainability School certification with AuSSI (Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative) in 2008
2009 Aims
- Commence the Waste module in 2009
- Set up action teams in 2009 involving students, parents and staff
- Improve biodiversity in and around the school
- To empower students and staff to work on real-world problems and outcomes
- Regularly enter data online in ‘SETS’(School Environmental Tracking System
- Apply for grants including Solar in Schools
